Corpi Gestió Integral de l’Aigua S.L. has formalized the contract to remodel the current wastewater treatment plant at the Cárnica Batallé cutting room, located in Riudarenes, into a process with ultrafiltration membranes.

With the new treatment process, it will be possible to operate the biological reactor with a higher sludge concentration, reaching 8-10 g/l, thus increasing the treatment capacity and also the purification performance. The higher biomass concentration will enhance the nitrification and denitrification reactions of the activated sludge biological process.

The chosen membranes are from the manufacturer KOVALUX, specifically the PULSION© model with an aeration system that reduces membrane fouling and improves filtration pressure, with lower energy costs.

The filtration capacity of the membranes will be up to 400 m3/d, although the wastewater flow does not exceed 300 m3/d. The membrane pore diameter is 0.03 microns, therefore, it is in the ultrafiltration range. The permeated water through the membrane will be free of suspended solids, greatly improving the quality of the water discharged into public water bodies.

The retrofitting is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
