The company NORFRISA has entrusted CORPI with the development and installation of an ultrafiltration membrane system as a tertiary treatment step, with the goal of producing high-quality permeate water (300 m³/day) for reuse in accordance with the requirements of Real Decreto 1085/2024.

The solution developed by Corpi Gestió Integral de l’Aigua consists of a skid-mounted system that includes all necessary components for treatment:

  • Ultrafiltration membranes (7 modules)

  • Production and cleaning pumps

  • Blower for air scouring during cleanings

  • Raw water tank

  • Permeate water tank for chemical cleaning (CIP)

  • Dosing pumps for coagulant, sodium hypochlorite, and acid

  • Power and control panel with touchscreen interface

The permeate water from the membranes is stored in four vertical tanks, each with a capacity of 90 m³, where chlorination is performed prior to reuse.

The filtration process operates in Dead-End mode, with production cycles ranging from 20 to 60 minutes, alternating with cleaning cycles of 3 to 4 minutes. The hollow fiber membrane is encapsulated within the modules and has a pore diameter of 0.03 microns. Operating pressure is below 1.5 bar.

The main advantages of the PURON® MP membrane include:

  • High filtration flux and strong tolerance to feedwater solids, reducing pretreatment costs

  • Virtually unbreakable fibers, lowering maintenance costs

  • Fibers are only bonded to the resin at the top, minimizing accumulation of solids and fibers

  • Internal membrane structure enhances filtration performance and reduces chemical cleaning frequency

  • Optimized design and operation to reduce both capital and operating costs

The system is very compact and easy to operate, as all processes are automated and require minimal intervention from plant operators.
